By Will from Texas on 01/24/2009 Pros: Powerful, Wide range of fuels Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have used this stove for about 9 years off and on mostly for personal backpacking and winter trips, it has never failed me in any conditions from winter trips to the Rockies to summer trips, great heat for boiling water or melting snow, yet can be used with the outback oven on canister fuel. It can be difficult to light on canister fuel at higher altitude. I agree It can be loud
By Quetico canoer from Onalaska, WI on 08/10/2008 Pros: Easy To Clean, Easy to Light, Powerful, Stable Cons: Poor temperature control Best Uses: Backpacking, Canoe Tripping Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used this stove for the first time on a 6 day 4-person canoe trip in the Quetico. I love how durable this stove seems. It lit fairly easily and makes things hot...fast! Simmering is difficult, though. It is loud, but at least I could tell it was working. I like the metal fittings and fuel lines. It is a bit heavier than other stoves, but the fuel flexibility is great. I used white gas with no trouble. Among the concerns I found was that the o-ring on the pump tended to fall off when I took things apart. I had to be careful not to lose it. The diffuser plate would also come loose in the bag, so keep an eye on it. I was using the 1 liter fuel bottle, so the stove would actually run out of gas before the bottle. Use the smaller bottle to get to all the fuel in the bottle.
By Big D from Denver, CO on 08/04/2008 Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Powerful, Stable Best Uses: Backpacking, Car Camping, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: nice stove. cranks like a jet engine. I hooked up a gas cartridge to it and it cranked. Was a bit tricky to light at first, but then figured it out. You just have to have it as low as possible, and light it from the top, not the side. Then you can crank it up. I bought this cause it is multifuel and light. I got an MSR fuel bottle, which works fine with this Primus stove (screws on at least and holds pressure. Didn't try with actual fuel.) The seal on the plunger for use with fuel bottle, looked a little beat up already, yet this stove is new. I think it's either too soft of rubber, or it's been sitting around for some time before being sold to me. Looking forward to backpacking with it.
