I’ve worn the shell in cold and rain and it performed really well. I stayed dry and warm and it never got too hot.
The shell material seemed stiff and plastic-y out of the box, but it softened almost immediately upon wearing the first time.
I like the high-visibility orange of the shell and the details like the venting and pockets.
The only downsides I found, and they’re minor - are that the liner is pretty blah looking by itself, and I would like something slicker lining the sleeves of both the liner and the shell.
Otherwise it’s a great jacket and the price for Marmot is good too.
By Del Rey Flyfisherman from Los Angeles, CA on 12/11/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Warm, Waterproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket is awesome. It's really two jackets; a hard shell rain coat and a soft shell light jacket. You can sport either on its own or use the soft shell as a liner for the hard shell. Then you've got a pretty darn warm coat suitable for cold rainy weather or snow activities. Marmot makes very high quality gear and the jacket is very attractive. I love it.
Not a bargain for the money By none from eat coast on 11/28/2008 Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Shoulders felt too small. Sleeves were too long. Inner liner sleeves pulled out when removing jacket.
Inner liner had no connection at the neck and possibly could allow rain / snow to get in between the inner and outer liner. I returned it.
