Smith Sport Optics |
| The Smith sunglasses tradition began long before Dr. Bob Smith struck a deal to manufacture Smith goggles. His Smith goggles had been legendary with locals in Sun Valley, Idaho, for years. Initially made around a kitchen table and traded for lift tickets, they were just too awesome to be kept secret for long. After realizing the demand for his technology and innovation, Smith was founded in 1965 with the first ever breathable vent foam and sealed thermal Smith goggles lenses. Soon expanding into Smith sunglasses as well, Smith became a force to be reckoned with in the optical industry. Today Smith sunglasses and Smith goggles are on par with the best in the world. Tapered Lens Technology (TLT) allows light to travel directly to your eye instead of distorting it along the way, providing enhanced clarity and exact positioning of objects in your field of vision. Other Smith innovations include Fog-X anti-fog coating, PMT ventilation system, and the patented Turbo C.A.M Constant Air Management system. Remaining in the forefront of the industry with breakthroughs such as this has kept Smith sunglasses going strong and given the name instant recognition worldwide. Suffice it to say, that’s a long way from hot glue in the kitchen. |

By Smokey Mtn Girl from Maryville, TN on 08/25/2008 Pros: Adequate Tint, Attractive Design, Comfortable, Good Protection Describe Yourself: Comfort-Oriented, Practical, Stylish Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is my third pair of Smith sunglasses - each one is a different style and great product. They all work for any occasion from outdoor sports to shopping in the city! These sunglasses are on the bigger side, but have good coverage and very stylish. The first pair I got seemed stretched out, but STP was great about exchanging them and the new pair fits good!!
By JW from Hagerstown, MD on 08/24/2008 Pros: Adequate Tint, Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Cons: Lenses not interchangeabl, Not Polarized Best Uses: At The Beach, Athletics, Casual Wear, Driving, Special Occasions, Travel Describe Yourself: Comfort-Oriented, Modern, Practical, Stylish Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend These are GREAT sunglasses! I have an extremely hard time finding sunglasses to find my head. I searched for quite awhile, even making a special trip to a sporting goods store 40 minutes away. They were the nearest Smith Optics dealer.
After trying on several pair, I found the Proof's to be the best, most comfortable fit with stylish looks. After searching on the internet a bit, I was happy to find a pair at Sierra Trading Post. Disappointed that they were not polarized, I still opted to get them, especially at such a cheap price. I'm glad I did!
These are my second pair of Smith sunglasses. I bought my first pair, the original Sliders, back in 2001. They lasted through skiing, biking, swimming (including saltwater!), volleyball, being dropped, kicked, swung through the air, you name it! Those glasses survived just about everything. Seven years later, they were broken by the impact of a rock-solid volleyball.
I bought a pair of Costa Del Mar Hammerheads at another vendor the same time I got these. More than twice the price, they are polarized and very nice, sporty glasses. But between the two, the Costa Del Mar's tend to put pressure at the back of my ears where, with the Smith's, you can't even tell they're on your head.
The other downfall is the lenses are fixed, not interchangeable. With my Sliders, you could change from a brown to a yellow or orange lens. The latter help when skiing.
You won't be sorry getting these glasses! They are DEFINITELY worth it!
