Not at all like a Montrail... By mountaineer from wet western wa on 08/16/2008 Cons: Bulky, No ankle or heel support, Tongue construction, Uncomfortable Best Uses: I would not recommend use Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Love my Montrails-- wear them all day, everyday to work at the emergency room and in the field. They have performed well wet and dry and on trails. THESE Montrails were AWFUL. The size suggestion about ordering 1/2 size larger was totally off for me- they were too big. I didn't bother re-ordering, as the shoes were cumbersome and the padding I love in my other montrails was totally absent. Would not suggest these for anything.
MONTRAIL JAVA XCR HIKING SHOES By Flying T- Bird from Boston on 08/13/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Best Uses: Daily Use, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These shoes are comfortable, although seem a little tighter than other shoes. Good arch support. They didn't really need breaking in. So far, I haven't tried hiking in them, but have worn them around town in the rain. My feet haven't gotten wet since I got them. My feet used to slosh around in my shoes during heavy rain. These shoes are well worth buying.
By Chris the Geologist from Atlanta, GA on 08/13/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Good Design Best Uses: Daily Use, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I typically wear a 9.5 so initially ordered a 10. This too was too small so had to jump to a 10.5. This problem is because of the design of the toe box. The hard rubber (which is good because it wears well) jams your toes together. After returning the first pair and getting a whole size larger they seem to be great shoes (This is the second pair of Montrails that I have bought)

Good shoes if you buy 1/2 size bigger By JR from Colorado on 08/09/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Regulates Temperature Well, Stylish, Wicks Away Moisture Best Uses: Backpacking, Daily Use, Hiking, Team Sports, Travel Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I wish Montrail would get on the bandwagon with other manufactures and make their shoes true to size. I wear a 9 1/2 in all other shoes and need a 10 in their shoe. Otherwise it's all good.
