Another Winner from Giro
By Powder SkierVerified Reviewer from Colorado Mountains on 10/30/2009
Pros:
Comfortable, Durable, Easily Adjustable, Protective, Well Ventilated
Cons:
Not LG phone-compatible
Best Uses:
Skiing, Snowboarding
Describe Yourself:
Advanced
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I got this Omen to replace my Giro Nine.9 helmet, which received a lot of knocks from low branches after 3 seasons of skiing in the trees. The Omen looks like military-grade equipment, and should provide superior protection. The Omen fits even better than my old helmet, and the adjustment knob in the back really makes a custom fit quick and accurate. The trick sliding vent controls are a plus. With a more durable shell than my old helmet, this one is definitely heavier, but it still feels pretty light...we'll see once ski season has started. The audio system headphone jack is not as accessible as on my old helmet, but then it might be less accessible for snow to get in, too. Comes with many adapters for lots of different cell phones, but the system doesn't work with my LG phone :-(.

Good value on a nice helmet. Well vented and comfortable. Audio works great for Ipod but could not get it to work on MotoRazor or LG Scoop cellphone.

LOVE this helmet! It is very comfortable and the sound is great. I initially had trouble with my phone where people could hear ME, but I could not hear the caller. The manual mentioned something about changing the settings on my phone to auto answer, and the problem was fixed. The only way to hear a caller is by turning down the music all the way if you have both a phone and MP3 connected. I also found that when I listen to the music I have installed on my phone (verses an MP3), the volume on the TuneUps controller does not adjust to sound volume. FYI for sizing: My head was right on the cusp of small verses medium. I ordered the small, and that was a mistake because the back of the helmet has an adjustment lever like a bike helmet or hard hat to help with fitting. I am finding that a skull cap I wear for zero or below temperatures during skiing makes the helmet a bit too tight. I determined my head size by measuring my head with a fabric measuring tape and comparing to the numbers listed next to the size. Also, I searched the Giro website for this helmet. I believe it was over $250 for the helmet alone and no tune ups. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Comments:
Got this helmet a few weeks ago. I really like it. Especially being able to play music while skiing/snowboarding. Pros: Looks good, fits right, and the vent system is cool. Also the ability to adjust the helmet using the knob on the back works well. Cons: The ear pads press on my ears and hurt a little bit. I can make the strap looser, so it doesn't hurt, but then it isn't as tight to keep my ears warm. Also, they don't include enough adapters for different devices. This helmet is a little heavier then others. The wireless version would be nice, but for the price this is great

Problematic bargain
By WISki from Northern Wisconsin on 01/21/2009
Pros:
Great Peripheral Vision, Headphone Compatible, Lightweight, Protective, Stylish, Well Ventilated
Cons:
No replacement ear pads, Scratchy ear pad
Best Uses:
Downhill, Skiing, Snowboarding
Describe Yourself:
Advanced
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I like the style and adjustability of the helmet. The Tune ups has issues. At first I was about to send it back because of the poor sound. Then connected my player directly to the ear pad (instead of using phone/volume control)and huge improvement in quality. Right ear pad was not sealed well around the inside headphone opening. Was scratchy until I glued it down. At original price point should include regular ear pads. With adjusting system it leaves a bit of room on sides and is windy, not as warm as previous helmet. Should offer plenty of venting options for warm weather conditions.
