Great Jacket! Great Value! By Scott from Springfield, OR on 02/15/2010 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Excellent quality and value when compared to other name brands (etc., Patagonia, North Face). It also fit better than either one of these brands. I tried them both before purchasing this jacket.
A hoodless water resistant softshell By Captain Fleece from Fairfax, VA on 02/15/2010 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, WB 400 resists wetness Cons: No insulation, Not Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The cons of not being windproof or insulated should not detract from a durable softshell's appeal. The Rayzar is cut full enough in size large for me to wear a Patagonia R4, Arcteryx Solo or Delta SV, or a Nano Puff under it. The sleeve tab adjustments help in accommodating different layering schemes and the neck closure adjustment is nice. I stuff a Goretex rain hat in the pocket for head protection. The shell fabric is tough enough to handle the tree branch snags and rock abrasions of the AT in MD and VA. The Rayzar by itself with a capilene crew shirt enables a comfortably cool hike with tough shell protection. It reduces wind penetration but doesn't block it completely. I carry a light weight Raab Latok Alpine for heavy rain and wet snow.

schoeller, the best a man can get By nic the climber from St. lous, MO on 12/07/2009 Pros: Bombproof, Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Climbing, Cold Weather, Extreme Conditions Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am a tree trimmer, i climb trees all day every day but sunday, and for me, this jacket is the cat's meow. when tree or rock climbing you need extreem flexibility, and this jacket gives it to you.
I've owned this jacket for 3 months, and have put the rayzar through some rigorous testing. 40mph winds, below 20* temps(with a sweater underlayer), downpour rains, and everyday wear and tear at work and it still looks new. winds and snow have been no problem at all. After about 30 min in a downpour i was wet. not the best jacket to take camping due to the fact you want to stay dry as often as possible. For any other outdoor activity, i have found nothing better. I've tried multiple expensive hard and soft shells and nothing performs like a schoeller fabric softshell, i excusively wear pants that are made of the same stuff. virtually indestructable...
Fit- the sleeves are longer than standard, but this allowes you to lift your arm over your head and the sleeve stays on your wrist. it is a bit bigger than i thought. I bought a medium which i normally wear and it's a little loose, i was expecting a tighter athletic fit.
bonus, the pockets double as pit zips.
only negative, uncomfortable until broken in, but worth it.
By TOhio from Cleveland on 10/20/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great jacket. Have gotten multiple compliments. Only issues are sleeve length (too long) and that it's not as warm as I expected. Probably only good for casual wear down to 30 degrees or so. Could go a bit lower if actively skiing or doing more strenuous activity.
